Best time to visit

Whilst the best time to go to Sri Lanka is between December and mid-April, which is considered to be the countrywide peak season, the traditional summer holiday months are also favourable on the east coast which is at its peak from May to September.

What to See, Eat and Do ?

Colombo

The city of Colombo has a lot to offer its visitors. The city is an excellent mix of old and new and is the largest city in Sri Lanka.

 

There are several places worth seeing in the fort that can be visited on foot. A walk down the Galle Face Green Promenade is highly recommended. It stretches for half kilometre and is a remnant of the British era.

 

Colombo offers a good range of shopping facilities. Pettah adjacent to the Colombo Fort is an excellent shopping district. The Crescat Boulevard on Galle Road is a good place to shop. Other places to shop in the city include shopping complexes such as Liberty Plaza, Majestic City and Paradise Road.

Bentota

Bentota's beaches are its main attraction. Bentota beaches are considered to be some of the finest beaches in the country and are extremely popular amongst both tourists and locals alike.

 

The stretches of golden sand beaches extend for several kilometres and are lined by shady palm trees along the coast.There are numerous luxurious resorts and hotels around Bentota that meet the needs of a Muslim visitor.

 

Plenty of private space will be available around the Bentota Beach area to make use of during prayer times. Muslim travellers who wish to visit a mosque will have to travel to some of the mosques in Beruwela – the neighbouring town of Bentota which is located about 6 kilometres away.

Kandy

Kandy is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Sri Lanka. Steeped in history, Kandy is an exotic hilly city that impresses visitors in the first instance.  The architecture, layout, sculptures and paintings all around the city are worth observing.

 

The Peradeniya Botanical Garden, Kandy National Museum, The Tea Museum, Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage and Udawattakele Royal Forest Sanctuary are worth visiting.

 

Kandy also has a number of halal restaurants. There are several mosques in Kandy where Muslim visitors can stop for offering prayers. The most prominent mosques in Kandy include Mahayyawa Grand Mosque,Mawilmada Jummah Mosque, Street Jumma Mosque etc.

Nuwara Eliya

Set amidst Sri Lanka’s misty hills, Nuwara Eliya is a charming and family-friendly retreat ideal for halal-conscious Muslim travelers. Known as “Little England,” it offers serene landscapes, tea plantations, and cool mountain air perfect for family exploration.
